After celebrating our friends' beautiful and intimate Hunter Valley wedding, we went up north for a scenic drive to Newcastle before going back to Sydney.
We first grabbed some lunch at The Happy Wombat (seriously, that honey brie was ❤️ and the pork belly was just chef's kiss 😚🤌🏼) before strolling around the harbour. I firmly believe that food is the sixth love language, and traveling—the seventh. So you can imagine how happy I was during our little excursion.
I think Newcastle surprised us with its mix of hilly streets in the city (giving off Baguio vibes) and endless views of the sea. The atmosphere was so peaceful, laidback, and I myself love a good mountain/hill + sea view that I would choose to stay in Newy... had there been a bullet train going between Sydney and Newcastle 😆 (I'm still biased with Sydney because of all the places to explore lol)
We were walking along some beaches when surprise, surprise. A strip of parking near Nobby's Lighthouse was being closed for the air show scheduled on the following day. Paulo and I got so excited and saw that we were in town for the Williamtown Air show so we made it a trip and stayed for another night.
It was the first air show I've watched and Paulo ofc geeked so much it was cute and endearing and it reminded me of all our flying dreams. We enjoyed every moment, hands down. During the air show we also met up with Nick, Paulo's workmate and watched the morning show together. For the afternoon, we went to get gelato and explored the cathedral, enjoying a beautiful view that stretched across the harbor, with planes soaring through the sky for the second show.
Definitely a core memory and it felt like one of those Stardew Valley heart events! Always great to have a breather in between seasons (of life). Watching those planes soaring and buzzing through the sky, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the adventure that awaited us in Australia's second oldest city.
Thank you, Newy!
