Treated my family recently with some yummy baked goods from Cavite-based Buenos Dias Panaderia in instagram (@buenosdiaspanaderia)
I got us some Espresso Buns con Kesong Puti, Yema Swirls, and Milo Donuts - each catering to my family's preferences: a treat for the tastebuds for my parents, subtle sweetness for my Mamang and Ate Fel, and my forever bias - Milo.
The pastries came in time for merienda and were even warm when they got here. My parents definitely took an instant liking to the Espresso Buns because it reminded them of our old routine back when we'd frequent KopiRoti in BF. (We'd get roti buns and pair it with poached eggs and coffee.) My dad preferred these over KopiRoti buns though! I understood why too, it was a bit bitter but at the same time there was a subtle nudge of sweet and salty fighting over our tastebuds that harmonized in well with the taste of coffee.
I gave my lola an Espresso bun too but she insisted on having more Yema Swirls after trying one and she kept telling us how much she liked the Yema Swirls because they're not 'diabetic-sweet'. I felt that maybe it was because the swirls were moist and light to the stomach. It was really cute and heartwarming to see her enjoy something I got while thinking of her. I got the Yema Swirls for Ate Fel too because I knew she wasn't really a fan of anything that'd be too sweet. Hence, why I ate most of the Milo Donuts. (Not even guilty, my brother ate two to 'stay in his diet'. Sauce. Will workout this Tuesday, promise!) The Milo Donuts were definitely heaven for me because there was a generous amount of filling that was just absolutely *chef's kiss*
